If you've always dreamt of riding the 'MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER' country, and don't want to rough it too much, then this horseback adventure is for you!

Experienced guides take riders along bush trails, old stock routes, fire and brumby trails, winding through forests of majestic snowgums and mountain ash.

Our adventure treks meander through the pristine and unique Snowy Mountains on the southern side of Jindabyne, with trails along crystal clear streams, climbing up to peaks which offer awesome picture postcard views of the ranges, valleys and the mighty Snowy River gorge.

Canter along the open plains surrounded by impressive mountains cloaked in their blue haze and wind your way up through the bush on tracks used by brumbies.

The riding country offered is second to none, mountainous with lots of variations, making each and every day in the saddle interesting and different.

An average distance of approximately 30 km a day is covered. This very scenic part of the Australian Alps houses a large variety of wildlife, such as emus, kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, echidna and deer, an abundance of bird life, as well as herds of brumbies (Australian wild horses).

A highlight of every day on the trek is our gourmet lunch, carried along by our trusty pack horse. Riders are treated to a sumptuous selection of delicacies, pate' and cheeses. A chilled bottle of Australian white wine or fruit juices are all part of a delicious picnic out in the bush. Feeling thoroughly fulfilled, sit back with a cup of billy tea and enjoy the mountains.

Horse riding groups are kept small with a maximum of 12 riders made up of nature and horse lovers from all walks of life.

Our staff are fully qualified and are accredited with a Trail Guide Instructors Certificate and Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation from Horse Safety Australia who are a Nationally Recognised Training organisation, and have First Aid Training and hold current Senior First Aid Certificates from the Australian Red Cross.

Our Horses:

We pride ourselves on the condition and temperament of our horses. Horses are carefully matched to riders, considering ability, requirement and even personality. We also offer a selection of horses available only for experienced riders.

We have a quality stable of over 20 horses to work with. The main breed we use are Australian Stock Horse, but we also use some Clydesdale and Quarter horse crosses in the team.

Australian Stock Horses are our passion! We breed, compete and trek on high quality and very versatile horses bred at our Snowy Mountains Stock Horses stud.

We have spirited horses to give experienced riders a challenge, quiet reliable horses for novices and a good range in between for intermediate riders.

Our Saddles:

Australian Stock Saddles and Australian made leather tack are used at Snowy River Horseback Adventure. We predominantly use fender saddles (a cross between the traditional Australian stock saddle and the American western saddle) made by Lyle Kent and Sons which we find to be comfortable, safe saddles well suited to mountain riding.
